100 Best Juices, Smoothies, & Healthy Snacks review + GIVEAWAY!
When I was offered a copy of my blog pal Emily von Euw's new cookbook, 100 Best Juices, Smoothies, and Healthy Snacks, I was stoked. I've followed Emily's blog for a long time, admiring her increasingly amazing photography and her laid-back blog post writing. She regularly posts drool-worthy recipes that are not only raw, but vegan and gluten-free as well. Plus, she seems like a gal I could have a good time with, and I like that. Emily's recipes are as simple as it comes; whole foods, like dates, nuts, and coconut oil make an appearance in nearly every recipe, but are all so differently arranged and combined. Her creativity clearly extends beyond baked goods though, because in this cookbook there are a host of recipes that are totally intriguing: savory smoothies and juices, elixirs, cold soups, and raw breads and chips. Some things on my 'to-make' list? Green earth orbs, Buddha-ful beet juice, vanilla melon magic smoothie, and her curried carrot cream!
On top of being an awesome recipe writer, Emily is a great person. I emailed her to mention that I'd be visiting Vancouver last month, and though she was going to be out of town, she wrote me back a thoughtful email with at least 15 restaurant suggestions to try in the Vancouver area. With as busy as she is, it seemed extra sweet to me that she took the time to do it- but thats just the kind of amazing person she is. And her photography is just as lovely. All the photos in this new book show her increasingly thoughtful photo composition, each page begging to be gobbled up. The fresh produce always contrasts beautifully with the creamy, crunchy, mouth-watering final recipes. You'll want to make every recipe in this book the moment you get your hands on it.
When we chose the recipe to make, we wanted to pick something simple and satisfying. We went with Emily's homemade Chocolate Mylk, 'cause it perfect and something EVERY vegan should know how to make, and because we didn't wanna give away any of her too clever recipes...thoseeeee are for the book buyers. And book WINNERS, which you could be if you enter our giveaway below. Yup, we're giving away one FREE copy to one of YOU amazing readers of ours! Read on, ladies & gents.
CHOCOLATE MYLK
INGREDIENTS 1 cup raw nuts, seeds, or coconut meat 3 cups water 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pinch of pink Himalayan crystal salt 3-5 pitted dates DIRECTIONS Cover the nuts or seeds (if using) in water and let them soak for 6 hours, then rise and discard the soak water. Blend the soaked nuts, seeds, or fresh coconut meat with all the other ingredients until smooth, frothy, and white. Strain through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth (or leave as is). Store in the fridge in a sealable glass container for up to one week. Makes 4.5 cups (1 L).

I've been trying to go raw vegan since 1/1/15, but I believe the smoothies are going to be my best bet to sticking with a plan. Would love to have this book for some new ideas. Thanks!

Yes please! Already, the vegan baking book has changed my partner's sweet habits, I think some coaxing (tweaking) towards smoothies might also go down well! :)
