Vegan Products We're LOVING Right Now!

Food Should Taste Good's Harvest Pumpkin Chips

It's fall and we know you've been inundated with pumpkin flavored things, but here us out on this one! These seasonal Harvest Pumpkin Tortilla Chips from Food Should Taste Good are DELICIOUS! They're lightly seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, but they're not overly sweet. We served them up at  a recent taco party with a bunch of vegan blogger friends and they were a hit! People were dipping them into white bean hummus, guacamole, and eating them all on their own. We kept a bag for ourselves and made a sweet cashew dip sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg and sweetened with maple syrup - so yeah, that was fucking delicious. I loved these chips and will start looking for them every year at this time...and you should too! They're the perfect holiday chip, and they taste good with seemingly everything. You can order some for your holiday parties at FoodShouldTasteGood.com!

Lucy's Holiday Sugar + Chocolate Merry Mint Cookies

We've been fans of Lucy's Cookies for years, ever since we moved to Maine and they were some of the only vegan cookies we could find in markets. We were so appreciative to find a cookie we didn't have to make and that actually tasted good! If you like a crispy cookie, these are for you. There are SO freaking yummy. They come in a multitude of flavors, but we're really excited about these seasonal Holiday Sugars and Chocolate Merry Mint cookies! They're really good and the perfect thing when you just can't bake another dish this holiday season. Put out a plate of these cookies out with some almond milk and you will have one very happy Santa this Christmas! You can get more info and order some for your Holiday parties at DrLucys.com.

Essential Living Foods Superfood Smoothie Mix - Acaî + Goji Boost

I'm always looking for new ways to toss a little extra protein into my meals, and this superfood powder from Essential Living Foods with acai and goji is the perfect way! Its got a great fruity flavor and packs 8 grams of protein into every 2 tablespoon serving. As with all ELF's products, this mix is non-GMO, gluten-free, organic, and raw - so there are only pure, unadulterated superfoods in an easy to eat form! We like in smoothies, on our oatmeal, and even mixed into water for a quick pick-up with fruity flavor. You can check it out and order your own at EssentialLivingFoods.com!

Teabook
I love tea. We really steer away from caffeine at our house, and we're big herbal tea drinkers. When monthly tea subscription box Teabook reached out and offered to let us try their box a few months back, I was thrilled. I love trying different types of tea - iced or hot - and was excited to see what they were all about. They sent us a typical monthly box, which contained not only 3 different types of premium tea, but a lovely glass tumbler for brewing and drinking the tea in. Being a green tea fan I immediately opted to try the loose leaf green tea. I placed the loose leaves in my glass bottle, filled it with hot water, and let it steep for several minutes before placing the strainer cap + lid to it. Then I ran out the door! I loved how simple it was to prepare while I was getting ready to go, and I also loved having a steaming hot glass of really good green tea on the commute. Teabook sends different fresh loose leaf teas monthly for you to explore at a reasonable price, and the double-walled glass tumbler is high quality and the perfect size for a cup of tea. You can get Teabook delivered directly to your door by visiting them at Teabook.co!

Lola Menstrual Cups
When we lived in Maine two years ago, I became super interested in finding alternatives to traditional tampons. Some studies have shown that typical tampons contain carcinogens and often tons of perfume. I don't (any my lady parts DEFINITELY don't) want any part of that. The vagina is a pretty great and super sensitive piece of equipment, and I like to keep it as harm-free as possible during my monthly menstruation. I had tried a product called the Moon Cup, which is similar but slightly different. I could never seem to get comfortable with it and ditched it after a few uses to go back to organic tampons instead. Recently I've again become interested in finding an alternative to expensive and wasteful organic tampons, and started looking around for a better option. I stumbled upon the Lola Cup after some searching and loved that it looked more flexible and a little smaller than the moon cup I had tried before, and also came in 2 packs! Lola Cups are a great alternative to tampons or liners on light or heavy days. They are hypoallergenic for us sensitive babes, BPA-free, and made from medical grade silicon. I went with size 1, the smaller of 2 sizes since I have yet to give childbirth. I won't go into the whole insertion and removal process here, but Lola Cup does come with instructions and is super easy to use. I loved it and loved that there were two so a backup was always available, and it was way more comfortable than I ever imagined. Plus, no mess! I'm a big fan, and even Alex loves the idea of never running to the grocery store on a late-night tampon run again. You can get more info from them at their website, LolaCup.com.

Kaeng Raeng Cleanse and Daily Greens Energy Review + Giveaway!

Picture
When I met Kelly from Kaeng Raeng at Expo West, I loved her pitch. She was basically showing off a healthy, 100% vegan meal replacement shake. I tried a sample cup and stopped- it was DELICIOUS! Way better tasting that I had expected and a lovely shade of pink, too. Next I tried a sip of the new, bright purple Daily Green Energy drink. I like green drinks, but this was different- and SO much better. It tasted fruity and fresh, and tasted 'green' but not like grass. Kelly and I kept in touch after the show and I was thrilled to try the all 4 of their delicious drinks this last week. Now, I'm hooked! Kaeng Raeng offers 3 and 6 day detox drink programs, the Daily Green Energy superfood drink and a skin care line consisting of an exfoliant, cleansing clay, and facial serum. I love that they're made (locally for me) in California and are certified organic, vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO. And each serving in the detox program (thats 3x a day!) contains a full serving of fruit, 15 grams of pea protein, and 2 billion probiotic cultures. That makes for one very happy tummy!
Picture
These cleanses aren't about fasting or starving- you're encouraged to eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as you'd like, and of course drink plenty of water. We started with the 3-day detox cleanse. It comes in 3 flavors: Into The Blue (blueberry + banana), Daybreak (mango, peach + pineapple), and Joyful (strawberry, raspberry, + pineapple). They come in powder form and are recommended mixed with water, juice, or a smoothie. I mixed mine with water so I could fully taste the drink's flavor and texture, but I actually really liked it that way and thought it was plenty sweet enough to enjoy that way as well. Each drink is made from a mix of 1 oz of freeze-dried raw fruit, non-gmo protein, probiotic cultures, and vegetable fiber.
The strawberry, raspberry + pineapple flavor was my favorite and the one I finished first. I liked the mango peach flavor second best, and preferred the blueberry banana least- but I'm not a huge banana fan, either. I loved the way they made me feel. All day long I felt light, energized, and satisfied. I have a lot of stomach issues so I usually get a few hours a day of stomach ache-age, but on the cleanse I really felt great and had almost no stomach pain. I was eating plenty of raw fruits and veggies along with the drinks and was using the higher end recommendation of adding 32 ounces of liquid to each packet. The best part about these drinks- and maybe what I was most surprised by- was how realistic and full they tasted. Since Kaeng Raeng freeze dries whole, raw fruit and adds psyllium to the packets, the detox drinks are packed with fiber and actually have a great mouth feel when you're drinking them. Add some ice and it makes a super easy, yummy smoothie! Plus the 9 grams of fiber per serving (27g/day) keeps you filled up for way longer than a juice ever could.  My only warning is that you really want to mix the powder in water very well (like with a fork or whisk, not just in a shaker bottle) before you drink it or it can get clumpy. I'm sure if you're mixing it into a blended smoothie there would be no problem, though.

The day after the cleanse I drank the Daily Green Energy purple superfood drink- the one I had sipped at Expo West- and totally loved it. I felt like it was a good segue way back into 'normal' eating, and a way to help extend the detox cleanse a bit. I will definitely be re-ordering these on the regular and drink 'em every day. It was so easy to pop into a shaker bottle (it dissolved much more easily than the cleanse drinks) and take anywhere, and I really did feel a pick-me-up from it when I drank it during my typical 2 pm afternoon slump! The Daily Greens drink has 6 grams of protein per serving and can be added to water, juice, or a smoothie- though I really loved the flavor in just water. It's made of all pronounceable fruit and vegetable ingredients plus some probiotics, which is just more good news for your tummy.
I mean it when I say I really loved these drinks- I would probably order the 3-day cleanse again (it recommends about 4x per year) in a few months, but am already planning to restock my Daily Greens drink because it is just so easy and so good- and its a way for ANYONE to sneak a little heath into their day. Luckily, I'm allowed to share a cute blender bottle like below AND some sample packs of the Daily Green Energy drink with ONE of you lucky gals or guys. Keep scrolling for the deets!
Okay here are the rules ya'll: open to US residents only (sorry, mates!), you can enter through the widget below until May 9th, when we'll pick a winner. Trust me guys- this is such a savings and so delicious, you're gonna wanna try it! If you can't wait or don't want to (and why would you?) you can go straight to Kaeng Raeng's website and order it for yourself. Good luck!

Ellovi Body & Lip Butter Review + Giveaway!

Ellovi Body & Lip Butter Review + Giveaway!

Picture
I'm officially a believer in body care products again. After months (okay, years?) of trying product after product, slathering my skin, lips, and hair in greasy, powdery, and sometimes straight liquid goop, I found a better answer. And what is that answer? Its called REAL INGREDIENTS. And Ellovi is all about using real ingredients. Started by down-to-earth duo Kelly + Ryan, Ellovi is free of artificial ingredients, cheap fillers, preservatives, and parabens. Ellovi products are made from edible, recognizable ingredients like macademia nut, coconut, marl nut, hemp seed, and shea. In fact, the body butter only has 6 ingredients and not ONE of them is water; because of this, the butter is highly concentrated and super hydrating, so it soaks into skin and won't evaporate off. Plus, your skin is like one giant sponge...so why not feed it the good stuff?
We also love the this cruelty-free company is committed to keeping their eco-footprint small, too. They use a 3D printer to make mold for all they lip butter containers, and package their body butters in wildly harvested, reusable glass containers.
Picture
It'll leave your skin silky, supple, and baby soft. I coat myself in it post-shower and feel softer than ever all day long. The butter is so soft on skin it dries to an almost powder finish. Amazing! And the lip balm? Not only moisturizing, the touch of tint gives your dry, sad-looking winter pout a killer boost. And it smells DELICIOUS! Seriously, Alex compared its scent to buttercream frosting. Who could resist slathering yourself in THAT?!
As a girl with sensitive skin I have to be careful about what I wear, but Ellovi us non-comedogenic, free of fragrance, and helps reduce wrinkles, cuts, burns, scars, and even eczema! And don't stop with all-over moisturizing- you can also use Ellovi  as a makeup remover AND a sunscreen!
The point is, I'm hooked, and I'm so hooked I want you to try it too. And while Ellovi's prices are totally comparable to similar (though far less impressive products), I want to give it to you for free. And Kelly, the brains behind these scrumptious goodies, has offered to give one lucky reader a FREE body butter & tinted lip butter to try for themselves! And if you don't win, throw it on your holiday wish list- it's a stocking stuffer worth giving AND getting. Enter using the widget below. International entries welcome, giveaway ends November 24th, 2014. We'll email the winner when they're picked. Good luck!!

North Coast Organics Review & GIVEAWAY!

Picture
We are in love with North Coast Organics deodorants and you get an opportunity to win some of their products COMPLETELY FREE. Plus, a coupon!

When Stephanie of North Coast Organics approached me with an offer to try a sample of their vegan, organic, hand-made in Chicago deodorants, I was all for it. I normally don’t wear any deodorant-type product at all, but sometimes wear mineral salts when the heat makes me a little stinky. I have sensitive skin and because of that, a seriously hard time finding cruelty-free products that don’t me make me itchy and rashy, or that work at all, really. I was intrigued by the two mini-deodorant samples that showed up in my mailbox. Wrapped in cute, eco-friendly packaging, two three-inch tall clear plastic containers tumbled out. I immediately had to open them and smell them, reveling in the delicate scent of each, both Revolver and Death by Lavender.
Picture
Presumably the Revolver is for men, the Death by Lavender for women, but I immediately fell in love with the gentle woodsey scent of the Revolver, so it was the first one I tested. Don’t get me wrong, the Death by Lavender was equally as delicate, a truly enjoyable scent. But for a girl who normally has no scent, I worked my way into it. I wore the Revolver for a full week of working double shifts waitressing. I needed this stuff to keep me stink free. And it did! Not only that, but I felt like it kept me surprisingly dry as well. No sweat dripping, no stench...I was sold!
I dedicated a week to the Death by Lavender next. I was pleasantly surprised by the hint of floral and fell in love with it more and more as I wore it. The scent does seem to get a little stronger with heat, but thats when you really need it, anyway. I never found the smell distracting or overpowering, and especially with the Death by Lavender scent never felt like I needed to re-apply.
Picture
I love that its made from 5 simple, understandable ingredients: coconut oil, cornstarch, baking soda, carnauba wax, and essential oils for scent.
Did I mention all the ingredients are 100% organic?
Plus if you’re not into scented stuff, they offer a ‘naked’ version, sent-free. Thats the kind of product I give my seal of approval. So here it is North Coast Organics: You’ve won me over, stolen my heart. I love your deodorants and I am lucky to have found them. And I mean it. Unfortunately for me, North Coast Organics didn’t pay me to write this post; Fortunately for you that means I’m telling the whole truth- this stuff is awesome.
