I cannot believe that next week is Thanksgiving. How?! When?! Can someone please explain this to me?! My new cookbook, The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook, was released at the end of last month and I've been busy book-touring and yoga instructing, so things have been absolutely flying by around here! Before we know it, it's going to be CHRISTMAS. But not so fast - for now, we've still got a Thanksgiving dinner to plan for, and I've got you covered. I've rounded up 33 of my best, Thanksgiving-worthy dishes that're totally vegan and good enough to impress your (or my) cranky grandma. Dishes like my Cranberry Apple Walnut Stuffing, Garam Masala Roasted Acorn Squash, and Purple Sweet Potato Pie Bars are sure to please everyone at your table this year!

I'm thankful for everyone that's on this journey with me: whether you're here because you're vegan, trying to eat a little healthier, or just stumbled across the page this morning - I'm happy you're here. Now, get your stretchy jeans ready and let's get cookin'!

2017 GOOD SAINT Holiday Gift Guide

Picture
The Holidays are here again and that means it's time for our yearly Holiday Gift Guide! This year I've compiled a list of gifts that I would LOVE to open up on Christmas morning - or any morning, let's be honest! Like some of the stuff you see here? All you have to do is share the link with your family members and make shopping that much easier on them. Every product on this list can be purchased online and can be shipped by Christmas (if that's your Holiday of choice!) so no searching through crowded stores or waiting in long store lines. I also included discount codes for you guys when I could - because who doesn't love a good deal?! I'm a real believer in all the things on this list and have tried every single one myself. If you're interested, you can also check out our gift guides from Holidays past: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, or head over to our SHOP for signed cookbook copies. Let's open some presents!

1. Canopy Verde Greenpoint Vegan Convertible Backpack

THIS BAG. You guys - I've been wanting a backpack-style bag for so long now. The 90s are back and so are those adorable black leather bags!  Lucky for all of us, my fave bag brand Canopy Verde has released their Greenpoint Vegan Convertible Backpack just in time for the Holidays and its is THE CUTEST. I'm totally obsessed! It's got all the functionality and comfort of a backpack, with the cute faux leather straps and roomy interior - but has the option of converting into an easy-carry, oversize tote for work or play. I never take it off! I love that I can easily switch from a shoulder bag to an easy carry side tote without having to change anything. And the navy + black style goes with almost everything I wear! Their most popular bag style, it is available in navy, olive, indigo, and stone. And because it's the Holiday season, you can get 10% OFF your order with code: AMBER10. PLUS, when you spend $175, you'll get their chic Carroll Cutch free! The Carroll clutch is a classic foldover clutch made with organic cotton and vegan leather. Makes a great gift - or keep it for yourself! SHOP NOW

2. Cards Against Humanity - The Period Pack
If you haven't played Cards Against Humanity yet, I'll assume you've been living under a rock. It's the most fun, most outrageous and unfiltered game of word and sentence association and it is amazing. I've played with everyone from close friends to my mother-in-law and it's always a good time. These cards are uncensored in the best way - and the Period Pack is no exception. Full of feminine wordplay and menstrual persiflage, this pack will bring hormonal tears of joy to your favorite lady - and it even comes with a wrapped, heart-shaped chocolate, just in case you need it. I thoroughly enjoyed the cleverness of both the cards and the packaging. It's been a rough year for ladies and vaginas in general - but this was a high note in an otherwise crummy year full of pussy jokes. SHOP NOW

3. LL Bean Sweater Fleece Pullover Hoodie
Okay - I already own this. In full disclosure, my sister bought me this for Christmas this year and I ripped into early and have been loving it and keeping cozy ever since! It's the perfect amount of soft & comfortable and makes layering a breeze. I'm a Mainer and have been wearing LL Bean for years - so I can attest to the high quality and incredible return policy. As someone who officially owns three different versions of this fleece, I think the addition of the hood is the best! It keeps your ears nice and toasty, and these new color combos they've come out with are so cute! I'm loving the orange - and this fleece totally matches my snow boots! SHOP NOW

4. LEVO Oil Machine
When I first heard about the LEVO Oil machine I was totally intrigued; a machine that allowed you to create any custom infused oil, at home, with all the conveniences of a countertop coffee pod maker - but easier, cleaner, and sleeker than any other model on the market. Maybe you're wondering, "What kind of infusions could I possibly make?" And friends - the list is so, so long. As a yoga instructor I see value in this machine beyond food infusions, as a tool to help me create my own custom massage oils for practice and teaching. As someone with a love for cooking, I see unlimited infusion possibilities. Everything from garlic-infused olive oil and vanilla-infused vodka to cannabis-infused coconut oil and cinnamon-infused maple syrup. If you can cook with it, you can infuse it! The machine uses controlled heat and time are used to transfer the flavor, scent, color, and nutrients from a variety of ingredients into the carrier of your choice. And it's now sold in 4 colors - but I am LIVING for that rose gold! Use code GOODSAINT to get $10 OFF your LEVO infuser! SHOP NOW

5. The Reversible Mat 3mm from Lululemon
I'm just obsessed with this mat. I've been using it for at least 6 months now and its my go-to for my everyday yoga practice. They make a slightly more cushioned 5mm version, but I've found this one being slightly smaller makes it perfect for all the traveling I do! It comes in a range of colors (I have one in Emerald Green from last season) and because it's two sided and reversible, is perfect for everything from sweaty hot yoga to a relaxing restore class. I rarely use the extra grippy side because the regular side - made with a polyurethane top layer that absorbs moisture - tends to be grippy enough, but I love the option in my sweatier, slipperier classes! Whenever I need another mat, I'd buy this one again for sure! SHOP NOW

6. Homestyle Vegan Cookbook
I'm not one to push a lot of stuff on you guys, but if you don't already own it and you're looking for a great Holiday gift, my cookbook can still make it to you in time! It's stuffed with 80 original, cozy, comforting dishes - each with a full-page color photo - that'll remind you of what Mama used to make...only healthier! Plus, it's 34% OFF on Amazon right now! SHOP NOW

7. Hydroflask - 40 oz with Straw Lid
We love our Hydroflask bottles and snack containers for iced and hot drinks and for taking warm breakfasts or lunches on the go. We each have a 32 oz bottle with a wide mouth lid, plus a 12 oz and 16 oz snack container and we are literally constantly using them. Now that I'm teaching yoga, having a larger amount of water and an easier way to grab a quick sip would be helpful, so I'm hoping Santa sneaks one of these babies under my tree - I love it in white! SHOP NOW

8. Native AP Mercury Lightknit Shoes
I've worn my current pair of Native sneakers almost to death. They're the most comfortable shoes I own! I bought them just before our Honeymoon to Europe and ended up walking at least 20 miles a day in them. I never got blisters and the materials are so incredibly light and breathable that you can wear them with or without socks. The  I can't wait to order my next pair and love the look of these mercury lightknits! They're clean, sporty, and I'm sure just as crazy comfortable. Plus, they're vegan!  SHOP NOW

9. Square Organics Protein Popcorn
I think Square Organics is making some of the best, most innovative, plant-based protein-packed snacks out there right now. They already have an 8-flavor line of SUPER yummy protein bars, and this year they released a line of cashew crisp bars that are like a healthy rice krispies. They're SO yummy! On top of that, they also dropped a line of protein popcorn this year. Let that sink in - snacking on popcorn AND getting a healthy serving of plant-based protein? HECK YES! It comes in three flavors - sweet, spicy, and salty and while I'm a sucker for plain salted, I think the spicy is a gift from the gods. You can use code GOODSAINT to get 20% OFF + FREE SHIPPING on their website! SHOP NOW

10. Healthade Holiday Cheers Kombucha
If you follow me on IG, you know I'm always preaching about probiotics! If you love someone, give them the gift of happy belly bacteria! I know it sounds weird, but I promise - they'll thank you. Plus, it tastes great! Healthade is an incredible company that still brews small batch kombucha in glass jars right here in LA. I love that they're committed to keeping it real and keeping their flavors creative - like this warm, cozy Holiday Cheers flavor! Stay tuned and give us a follow on IG - we're hosting a giveaway with them next week! In the meantime, find your favorite flavor and order a 6-pack on their website! SHOP NOW

11. CorePower Yoga Gift Card
You guys know that I LOVE Corepower Yoga! I got certified in both 200-hr Power Yoga and Yoga Sculpt this year and have nothing but positive things to say about my experiences. I'm made tons of friends and learned an incredible amount - my practice has gotten so much stronger. I still take class ay my home studio at least 4 days a week! They're having an great sale right now, so if you've been thinking about checking out a class - or just want to stock up on some new yoga gear - grab yourself a gift card! Right now, you can get a $100 gift card for just $80. That's a steal! SHOP NOW

10 Must-Have Pumpkin Recipes for Fall!

Picture
Fall is HERE my friends, and we are so excited! While we don't get quite as much cool, crispy father here in Southern California as I might like, the temperature are still dropping slightly and Pumpkin Spice-EVERYTHING is available wherever you go. We've got a solid collection of some really great, tried + true Pumpkin-lover's recipes around here, so we assembled our favorites into one post for your enjoyment. We've got all the bases covered - everything from cookie, brownies and fudge to donuts, steamers + fresh pumpkin juice. You'll find something to make your mouth water + curb your Fall cravings for sure. Scroll on for the goodies!
Picture
1. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I'm gonna get really real with you for a second: these are fucking delicious cookies, but they're packed with butter and sugar. Again, SERIOUSLY SCRUMPTIOUS, but not seriously healthy. Just maybe don't eat 6 per sitting? I'm not even apologizing, just a warning for the haters. These are celebrating your birthday cookies. They're follow with a glass of champagne cookies. They're decadent and rich and insanely delicious. If you're on a diet, these are not for you. If you wanna have a fall-flavored mouthgasm, then these are definitely for you.
Picture
2. Baked Pumpkin Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

These Baked pumpkin donuts are rolled in cinnamon sugared are literally are SO EASY to make that I thought I must be doing it wrong. From start to finish this was maybe a half-hour project, and I was so happy with how they came out. They so remind me of getting fresh donuts at apple farms when I was a little girl. These are the kind of donuts that give you street cred for being such a great cook. And you'll be like "Oh these easy things? I whipped these up lickety split!" and feel like a badass. So grab a donut pan and come bake with us!
Picture
3. Glowing Pumpkin Juice

Packed with citrus and seasonal pumpkin, this juice will brighten your day...and your skin! The beta carotene in the pumpkin is a powerful antioxidant crucial for normal skin cell development healthy skin tone. The Vitamin C found in the oranges, apples, and lemons not only builds a strong immune system and helps blemishes heal properly but also helps firm & tone skin, prevent free-radical damage, protects skin cells, and prevents signs of aging (like wrinkles!). And the mango? Delicious, yes, but also packed with beta carotene and Vitamin A- giving you that extra soft, smooth skin you CRAVE in this cool fall weather. Plus, what could be easier than cutting up your fruits and letting the juicer do all the work?
Picture
4. Pumpkin Zucchini Bread

Its stuffed full of zucchini and pumpkin so its basically just a vegetable. Or at least, that's what I told myself after eating 3 slices yesterday. We're really trying to cut back on the amount of sugar we're eating lately too, so like our recipe for Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies, this recipe has about half the amount of sugar you'll find in a traditional zucchini or banana bread recipe. The pumpkin adds some sweetness and helps keep it moist, and if nuts are your thing I bet a sprinkle of walnuts before you tossed it in the oven would be kind of amazing. Either way, we think you're gonna like it.
Picture
5. Pumpkin Chocolate Freezer Fudge

Now as an adult, and one who watches my sugar intake at that, fudge isn't something we make often. But with this crazy hot  weather we're still having in Souther California, I was CRAVING some fall.  That being said, we all deserve a treat, and being freezer fudge, its easy to eat just a piece of week and preserve the goodness for months to come. Plus, I'm a SUCKER for pumpkin/ chocolate combos, and the velvety, rich pumpkin layer compliments the dark chocolate beautifully.
Picture
6. Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

These cookies are perfectly fluffy and moist, and have an almost muffin-like texture. They're soft, chewy, and packed with oats and pumpkin spice. Plus, we cut the sugar way down so you can eat like six instead of one. (That's how that works, right?) They're easy to whip up and perfect for serving at parties or just binge-eating while you watch Hocus Pocus. They're also about to become your new favorite oatmeal cookie. Let's bake!
Picture
7. Pumpkin Spiced Steamer

A frothy, foamy, sweet, pumpkin-y cup of steamed dairy-free milk blended with cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. It's fall, all wrapped up in a mug. Topped with a spoonful of coconut whip would be lovely, but this drink stands just fine on its own. Its the perfect fall drink for those avoiding caffeine or who just want a kid-friendly version. We know you're going to love it.
Picture
8. Spiced Pumpkin Bread with Maple Vanilla Icing

This sweet, spiced loaf is the perfect breakfast OR dessert! And the maple vanilla icing makes the perfect topping. It screams Fall, and whips up super easily - it's a nearly fool-proof loaf. Perfect for taking to Holiday gatherings and sharing with the people you love...or hoarding for yourself - we're not here to judge!
Picture
9. Triple Chocolate Pumpkin Swirl Brownies

These brownies make me think of words like rich, ooey-gooey, and decadent. And those are words I love. I also love chocolate, which is why we used bars of dark chocolate, cacao chunks, and rich cacao butter to make these brownies a trifecta of chocolatey heaven. The pumpkin was a brilliant addition. I mean it!  It adds a soft, gooey pumpkin layer to an already sweet, fudgy bottom layer. The combination creates an almost cheesecake-like brownie that will make an appearance at Halloween, Thanksgiving, and daylight savings day too.
Picture
10. Pumpkin Oat Muffins

Don't these look scrumptious? Trust me, they are. We had some leftover pumpkin puree and some browning bananas to use up and came up with these little buggers. The fruit keeps the muffins moist and flavorful, while the muesli topping adds just a little crunch and texture. Ready to start your day off the right (and delicious) way?

Homestyle Vegan Cookbook Release + Sneak Peek Recipe!

Picture
GUYS, IT'S FINALLY HERE! After over a year of hard work, edits, re-shoots, tears, taste-tests and successes, my Homestyle Vegan cookbook has finally arrived on my doorstep - and some of yours already, too! I poured everything I have into this book - and somehow I loved it enough that I think I'm crazy enough to want to do another one...ha! I worked hard to make this book a cookbook I would want to make room for on my already-crowded shelf. I wanted this book to have recipe basics that will be you reaching for daily, but some amazing Holiday favorites that will have you consulting it each year before Thanksgiving dinner, too.

I was inspired with this book to re-create favorites from my childhood in Maine, along with dishes I had learned to love as an adult, but as healthfully reimagined as possible - without using any trendy superfoods or hard-to-find ingredients. In fact, every ingredient in the book is one you'll be able to find at your local grocery store - I promise. (Unless you live in like rural Alaska - I can't help you there!)

Oh and did we mention? NO TOFU or FAUX MEAT in the whole damn book! And most recipes include soy-free and gluten-free substitutions as well.  Below are a few sneak peeks you may have already missed on our IG. You can also find our cookbook posts under #HomestyleVeganCookbook. Ready to get your copy? Buy it here!

My #HomestyleVeganCookbook drops TODAY, on #WorldVeganDay! â–¡â–¡ You can get your copy wherever books are sold and at bit.ly/HomestyleVeganCookbook! â–¡ TAG ME â–¡â–¡ so I can see what you think of the book! â–¡ For upcoming book signings + events, visit FettleVegan.com â–¡

And now, the recipe...

Apple Cider Donuts

Growing up in Maine we would often visit apple orchards in the Fall with our elementary school classes to pick apples, press cider, and munch as many apple cider donuts as we could get our tiny hands on. Of course, the donuts were always the highlight of the trip for me. Luckily I’m an adult now, so I can pick apples more than once a year, and make these delicious homemade donuts anytime I want. This recipe is almost too easy - you’ll have fresh, sweet donuts in half an hour or less! Makes 6

INGREDIENTS
1 cup (150 g) all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (136 g) applesauce
1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider
2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons (30 ml) coconut oil, melted
3/4 cup (113 g) powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt.

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the applesauce, sugar, apple cider and apple cider vinegar. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients about a cup at a time, stirring to combine. Pour in the melted coconut oil and whisk to incorporate. Let mixture set while you grease a 6-mold donut pan.

Once the pan is greased and the oven is preheated, pour the mixture equally between the 6 donut molds and bake for 15 minutes. While the donuts bake, whisk together the powdered sugar and cinnamon in a wide dish.

When the donuts finish cooking, move them to a cooling rack for to cool slightly, then roll them in the powdered sugar mixture until they’re completely coated. Enjoy immediately!

TIPS
Leftover donuts last 1-2 days in an airtight container on the counter, but are best enjoyed fresh.

2015 Holiday Wish List!

Picture
It's that time of year again! The holidays are here, and I've curated a list of some of the greatest / funnest (I know it's not a real word) / loveliest things I've seen around the internet that I would LOVE to open up on Christmas morning. Or any morning, really. If you like some of the stuff on here all you have to do is share the link with your family members and make shopping that much easier on them. Every product on this list can be purchased online, so no searching through crowded stores or waiting in long store lines - we made it pretty easy! Some of the items you might've seen before, but I'm sure there'll be something new for you to find. We tried to include a little something for everybody, but of course I'm biased and swing towards cooking utensils and ladies clothing - sorry fellas! You can also check out our gift guides from Holidays past: 2013 + 2014. Now, let's open some presents!

1. Constellations Tea Towel: This thing is super cute, would look great under serving dishes at parties, and totally reminds me of the huge night sky and vivid constellations I grew up seeing in Maine. I love it!

2. Weekends are for Waffles Crop Top: This is maybe the truest statement ever spoken. I feel like I would live in this top because it looks incredibly comfortable, and has basically my life mantra scrawled across the front. I'll take two!

3. Jet Boil Genesis Base Camp Cooking System: Okay, so technically this won't be available until mid-January, 2016, but that does't mean you can't ask your family to pre-order it for you or give you a gift card! Or you know, just wait two weeks. This cooking system is the ultimate in camp cooking. With two burners, a frying pan and a 5 liter cooking pot, you can whip up just about ANYTHING while you;re in the woods. And as a crazy camper who LOVES to eat, this just speaks to me. Alex + I will be getting one to take on plant-based adventures for sure!

4. Bow + Drape ‘Daily Poutine’ Boyfriend Sweatshirt: Again, its just SPEAKS to me! We eat a whole lot of poutine in this house and I love sparkly things. Plus, Bow + Drape does a TON of custom food-inspired designs that include a lot of emojis. Their website has something for every foodie, be sure to check it out!

5. Mint Green Paddle Cutting Board and Kitchen Utensil Set: I have an affinity for collecting cute serving dishes, and these are no exception. I love the mint green color, but the set is available in a whole bunch of colors, if green isn't really your style. They are beautiful, hand-made, and would look lovely serving up some scrumptious vegan appetizers!

6. Pineapple Tumbler: I LOVE pineapples (I have a pineapple tattoo on my right inner arm). I also love gold, shiny things and this tumbler is basically screaming my name. It would be perfect for whipping up drinks at a party or just showcasing on your tiny ikea-inspired alcohol cart.

7. Kitchen Quick Chart: I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, especially this month as I'm wrapping up recipes for my cookbook, due out Fall 2016 (yup - free plug). I can usually remember conversions and substitutions pretty nicely, but sometimes after 4 hours of testing recipes and a huge kitchen mess, I couldn't even tell you the last ingredient I tossed in the bowl. Having this hanging in the corner of my kitchen would be a lifesaver!

8. Soludos Jason Polan Smoking Slipper, Pizza: Look, at this point you know I have a very friendly relationship with food, but if you know me reallllllly well, you also know I LOVE a good pizza. And these shoes just seem to get it! I love Soludos brand anyway, 'cause they make really great, beach-friendly shoes, and their artsy collab with Jason Polan just took them to the next level. I'll take a size 9!

9. La Vie Boheme White Mandala Yoga Travel Rug: I'm the kind of girl that drags my yoga mat all over the country when I travel, 'cause for some reason I feel like I need it. Yoga mats are kind of personal, you know? You've sweat all over them, they've seen you at your worst, but they never last as long as you'd think. That's why I love this alternative! Its a rug versus a plastic-y mat, so its more flexible (better for packing) and is washable, as opposed to just wiping the top layer of grime off my mat. Oh, and its GORGEOUS!

10. Non-Stick Mini Donut Pan: Because as much as I love donuts, there's just something about a MINI-donut that is fricken adorable. And I can stuff more mini-donuts into my mouth than normal ones. #noshame (also, see number 12)

11. Seafood Green Pottery Citrus Juicer: It's tiny, it's cute, it's hand-made, and it's my favorite color. I'll take it!

12. Donut Ornaments (4): 'Cause they're the cutest? Hopefully I get these BEFORE Christmas so I can hang them on the tree, but if not, I'll just keep the tree up until New Year's (like that wasn't happening anyway) so I can enjoy them a bit longer!

13. Carved Heart Enamel Personalized Popcorn Bowl: I just fell in love with this when I saw it. I love all things enamel and the personalization on this bowl adds the sweetest touch. And sure it says 'popcorn bowl', but I'm betting you could put fruit, salad, chips - just about anything in it you like.

14. Magical Thinking Henna Letter: Alex and Amber both start with the letter 'A', so over the past six years of dating we've gathered a handful of letter 'A's from various shopping trips and travel excursions that we have hanging around our place. We have some made of plastic, some of metal, and even a wooden one, but I love the designs on this one and that it's hangable. (More letters are available on the site!)

15. Hi-Filter Teapot in Deep Green: Do I need another teapot? Probably not. But I LOVE this one! It's got a stainless steel strainer inside so it's great for brewing loose leaf tea, and a no-drip spout for clumsy mummy's like myself! Plus, it's in my very favorite shade of my very favorite color, so I'm sold.

2014 FV Holiday Gift Guide!

2014 FV Holiday Gift Guide!

Picture
Here it is, my ultimate vegan Holiday Gift Guide for 2014! Everything on the list is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and would be a welcome gift under my tree this year. From accessories to wall art, we've got you covered. And while most of the list is directed at the ladies, we do have a couple of guy-friendly items on the list as well. Check 'em out!

1: Porcelain Cake Stand, Herriot Grace- Classic, beautiful, perfect for food photography. Do I really need more reasons?

2: Sea Urchin Air Plant, Oh Hello Friend- To add to my air plant collection, but in a fresh new planter. Such a clever way to reuse and add a bit of style!

3: The City Backpack (black), Herschel Supply Co- I'm not a purse girl, but I still have stuff to carry around. The solution? A classic, always-in-style black shoulder bag with faux leather straps.

4: More Please/ Help Yourself Serving Set, ShopBop- These are just the cutest. For salads, casseroles, or anything you need more than one utensil for serving.

5: The Ramos Cerulean Twill Lowtops, KEEP Vegan Shoes- I LOVE sneakers. I LIVE in sneakers. I love the ocean-y color & the funky laces on these and can't wait to add 'em to my collection.

6: Ombre Wooden Spoons in Pinky Purple, Etsy- These are great. Another tool perfect for serving food, but you'll definitely be the hit of the party with these hand-painted, ombré kitchen accessories.

7: Citrus Floral Recipe Box, Rifle Paper Company- I have slowly been writing my recipes down to pass on, or give to friends. This box is far better looking then wrapping the cards in a rubber band and is a keepsake you can pass down with the recipes inside. Plus, its GORGEOUS!

8: Falcon Enamelware Mug, Madewell- Simple, effective, and durable: must-haves in my coffee mug. Plus, judge me if you will, but how great would this look in a recipe photo?! I'll take a set, please.

9: Bright Knit Loop Scarf, American Eagle- I wear  a lot of grays, blacks, and whites, but love to accessorize with fun splashes of color. This scarf would look great with a tee and jeans, and could be worn with sneakers or flats. And I am all about those geometric patterns, yo.

10: Amberwood Faceted Glass Jar Candle, Anthology-We bought an amberwood candle a few months ago and I fell in love with the cedar wood, honey, & tobacco scent and can't get enough of it. Its perfectly rich and smells great next to our conifer. This one has a lovely jar, too!

11: Yeti Yoga Custom Mats, Etsy-Yoga mats are BORING. Well, usually. I've never had anything other than a single-colored mat, but these mats make me want to order one of each. They're thoughtfully designed and look great! Plus, no one at yoga will ever accidentally walk away with your beautifully designed mat...unless they'e jealous of how awesome it is.

12: Baking Soda Free Deodorant Cream with Grapefruit, Meow Meow Tweet- I try a new deodorant at least bi-monthly, and love having different types for different days. Some are more like paste, some are more like powder, and some still come in good ol' bar form. I'm totally intrigued by this baking soda FREE version from Meow Meow Tweet...and the grapefruit scent sounds fresh & sweet!

13: Faceted Terrariums, West Elm- These are lovely, and I am a little obsessed with succulents & air plants. They take little water, little care, and require mostly positive energy...right? I think so. I keep them hanging in my kitchen and bathroom, but would love a desk-friendly version, too!

14: 2015 Les Fleurs Calender, Rifle Paper Company- Gotta get through the year somehow, right? I'm forgetful and also bad at remembering to put dates into the calendar on my iPhone. Having a beautiful, art-filled version by my desk seems far nicer and far easier to write on with a pen. And again, SO PRETTY!

I'm hoping for it all on Christmas morning, but I'd be happy with a stack of vegan flapjacks and viewing of 'Its a Wonderful Life'. What items are on your wish list this year? We'd love to know! And we hope you enjoyed ours. Now excuse me while I go order the Yeti yoga mats in every single design, please. Happy Holidays!

9 recipes for Cinco de Mayo

5/4/2014

Picture
Cinco de Mayo is TOMORROW! A holiday celebrated in honor of the Mexican army's win in the Battle of Puebla, most people think it's the date of Mexico's Independence Day. It's not. But its IS a celebration of Mexican heritage & pride, which is why we're celebrating by whipping up some of our favorite Mexican-inspired recipes. This round-up can work as inspiration for your own celebration or as a list of great ideas to get you started. My favorites will always be the Cauliflower Queso & the Baked Jalapéno Poppers, but there are recipes on this list for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or post-bar late-night snackin'. Whatever you do to celebrate, enjoy it!
Picture
1. South of the Border Scramble
The perfect easy-to make breakfast to start your day. Made with tofu, tomatoes, & onions, and kicked up with a little spice!

Picture
2. Cauliflower Queso
Seriously one of my favorite recipes EVER. Creamy, flavorful, and as close to the original as I've had since I've gone vegan. Highly recommended, and lasts great in the fridge for multiple snacking sessions.

Picture
3. Cheezy Baked Polenta Fries
Made with cornmeal, these fries would make an incredibly tasty addition to vegan 'carne asada' fries (like nacho toppings on FRIES-YUM!), and are great dipped in a spicy mayo or salsa, too.  Great for sharing!

Picture
4. Picante Black Bean Hummus
Spicy, packed with protein, and a perfect spicy side for chips or alongside guacamole. Easy to share as an appetizer-as long as you're not sharing with double dippers.

Picture
5. Baked Jalapéno Poppers
Maybe my second favorite behind the Queso dip. These are BETTER than any restaurant version I've had, and are baked -not fried- so you can feel a little better about eating a bunch of them, too. Lightly breaded and stuffed with vega cheese, this is an appetizer that will impress your friends and cement your status as resident awesome vegan chef.

Picture
6. Baked Black Bean Burgers
Less Mexican-inspired than the rest but full of flavor and hearty enough to fill you up. Make the patties now and freeze them to use whenever you're ready. Topped with avocado and a little salsa- olé!

Picture
7. 6-Layer taco Pie
6 layers of beans, tortillas, cheese, salsa, and rice. A great family meal, this is like a baked burrito. Overstuffed and full of protein, this pie is a crowd-pleaser for sure.

Picture
8. Spicy 3-Bean Chili
This chili recipes has been my go-to for years. It is seriously simple to put together and makes enough to last a few meals. Plus, chili is hearty and great re-heated later, which is why I so often make a double batch and bring it work for a few days. Plus, its easily customizable and can be tweaked to include your favorite veggies or beans.

Picture
9. Spicy Foil-Baked Stuffed Peppers
One of my earliest recipes (apologies for the weak photography), but one of the simplest meals. Simply pack peppers full of your favorite spicy goodness and bake until soft! Looks like you spent hours assembling them, when really they may be the easiest thing you make all day.

Here's to a safe, happy, and healthy Cinco de Mayo! Don't drink too many margaritas, and be sure to eat way too much guac. Olé!
